Consultation
Achieving optimal results begins with properly preparing for your session during your complimentary consultation. This appointment includes discussing your goals for treatment and your health history.
Inform your SUMA Life House specialist if you have one or more of the following conditions:
- Pneumothorax, or a collapsed lung.
- A lung disease that can increase your risk of a collapsed lung, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), cystic fibrosis, and emphysema.
- A recent ear injury that may increase the risk of barotrauma, such as middle ear infections or Eustachian tube dysfunction, or a recent ear surgery.
We also do not recommend this treatment if you are pregnant or are planning to become pregnant. Please inform your practitioner of any medications you are taking and any medical implant devices, as these may also make you ineligible for hyperbaric chamber oxygen therapy.
Your Appointment
On the day of your appointment, we ask that you:
- Refrain from smoking or drinking carbonated beverages for 4 hours before your session.
- Avoid wearing oil or petroleum-based products, such as cosmetics, perfumes, skincare, and haircare products.
- Eat a balanced meal and stay hydrated.
Please arrive at your oxygen therapy session wearing clean, cotton clothing, or be willing to change into a provided cotton gown.
We ask that you not bring any prohibited items into the chamber, such as jewelry, electronic devices, flammable substances, or metal, as these may compromise the safety of your experience.
Post-Treatment
Hyperbaric chamber oxygen therapy has no downtime, and you can resume your normal activities following your appointment.
You may experience mild fatigue or hunger after your session; these symptoms are common and usually temporary. We recommend eating a balanced meal or high-protein snack and continuing proper hydration to alleviate these symptoms. If fatigue persists, avoid overexertion for the remainder of the day.
Contact our office and notify your SUMA Life House specialist if you experience any new or worsening symptoms, such as persistent ear pressure or temporary changes to your vision. We want to ensure that hyperbaric chamber oxygen therapy continues to be the right treatment option for you, so we may pause or cancel continued therapy if symptoms persist.
